Why look for an alternative
FolioDesk describes itself as "the client portal for freelancers and agencies": brief, signature, payment, deliverables and messaging behind a single link. It suits the freelancer who wants to quote, get documents signed and get paid from one tool. You look for an alternative when that is not what you need: a folder lasting several months, with several participants on the client side, and billing already done elsewhere.
What FolioDesk does
At the time of our research, FolioDesk is a complete portal in French: brief, deliverable upload, messaging, tasks, quotes and invoices, online signing with legal value (the site mentions eIDAS), card payment via Stripe, automatic deposit and balance payments, reminders for overdue invoices. The client reaches it through a magic link. On 30 September 2026, the entry offer is free; the first paid plan, Solo, is listed at €19 excl. VAT a month, with no commitment.
How Kolinea differs
Kolinea does no quotes, invoices or payments, and does not offer them: its promise is that nothing gets lost in a folder. On a single timeline it brings together messages, document requests, decisions to approve, sign-offs and appointments. The professional brings several people into the same folder (clients, architect, notary, bank), each with the access that suits them. The client comes in through a personal link, confirmed by a code received by email on each new device. After closing, everyone keeps read access to the folder, on the Free plan too, as long as the professional's space exists.
When to stay with FolioDesk
If you want to quote, invoice and collect payment in the same tool as client tracking, FolioDesk does that and Kolinea does not. Stay with it too if online signing with legal value matters to you: Kolinea offers a simple sign-off, not a qualified signature. The two tools can also sit side by side, one for billing, the other for tracking the folder.
