Sharing an address, exact or approximate
Share a location
The address on a map, exact or approximate
Pick the address from the suggestions: it shows on a map. If exact, everyone opens it in their maps app. If approximate, others only see an area, and the exact address stays yours alone.
- A checked address, on a map
- Opens in Google Maps, Apple Maps or Waze
- Approximate: an area, never the door
Replaces: An address read out over the phone · A screenshot of a map
With an approximate location, the exact address appears neither on screen nor in the export
An address picked from the national database
The shared location is an address you pick from suggestions and confirm on a map. Each reader opens it in one click in their maps app: nobody has to dictate it or ask for it again.
An address picked, a map, one click
In the composer, the "Share a location" menu (under "Plan") opens the form.
- You type the address and pick a suggestion. The search relies on the French national address base (IGN geocoding): picking a suggestion is mandatory, so the address cannot be approximate by accident.
- A map is shown. If the marker is not quite in the right spot, you move it by hand, and the address updates.
- You can add a name ("Site", "Car park entrance") and a note: access code, floor, access.
- The reader sees a map thumbnail. Clicking it opens a side panel. If the location is exact, an "Open in…" menu sends it to Google Maps, Apple Maps, Waze or OpenStreetMap.
The location is open to both parties and has no status or due date: it is information, not a request.
An area, when the address is nobody's business
A property for sale before the viewing, a home, a site whose neighbours need not know the details: some addresses are not given right away. With the "Approximate location" switch, the map only shows the postcode, the town and a circle whose radius you set, from 100 m to 1 km. The name and the detail line, however, stay readable by every reader: put no door code or floor in them until the address is given.
The circle's centre is shifted from the address, and republishing the same location always gives the same centre: cross-checking several publications therefore cannot recover the point. The exact address stays encrypted, is never shown to readers and never included in the folder's export. Only the publication's author gets it back, by editing it.
Once the viewing is set, you republish the location as exact.
In practice
- Real estate. The property is announced by its area before the viewing. The exact address is given only once the appointment is agreed, with the slot picked in appointment booking.
- Construction and renovation. The site is shared as an exact location, with its access (gate, code): the client reaches the address without having to call.
What it does not do
- Address suggestions are limited to France. A location abroad cannot be saved this way.
- An approximate area hides the address from the map, not the existence of the location: the postcode and the town stay visible.
- Once the exact address is published, every reader of the publication sees it. Decide beforehand who reads it, with document confidentiality.
