# Pick a folder back up where you left it

> When you return to a folder, Kolinea sums up what happened since your last visit and marks the spot where you had stopped.

## Three weeks away, a thread months long

On a folder that runs for a long time, you come back after days, sometimes weeks. You then have to scroll up the thread to guess what changed, and you miss the client's answer or the document dropped in the day before.

## A summary, then a marker

When you open the folder, a line at the top of the thread says what happened since your previous visit, for example « Since 22 Sept: 3 posts, 2 documents, 1 reply ». It counts posts, uploaded documents, replies to posts and items settled (a document request, an appointment, a sign-off or a milestone dealt with). Only the non-zero parts appear, and the line disappears when there is nothing new.

- **What you can already read.** The figures only count what you are allowed to see: a participant with limited access is never sent to a post they cannot open.
- **What others did.** Your own posts, replies and uploads are not counted.
- **A « View » button.** It takes you to the first new post. The « Hide » button hides the line for the length of the visit; it comes back on the next page load.

In the thread, a « You stopped here » marker separates the news from what you had already seen. It ignores pinned posts and those you have already read. On a very first visit, it starts from the day you joined the folder, whereas the summary line does not appear yet.

The reference visit does not move on every reload: as long as you come back within half an hour, the comparison is still made with your previous visit. It applies to everyone on the folder, clients and participants included, with no account to create.

## Your recent folders at hand

In the sidebar, the « Recent folders » list keeps the folders you have opened within reach.

- **Eight folders at most**, all workspaces together: those of your workspace and those other workspaces have shared with you. Opening a ninth pushes out the least recently opened.
- **Stable places.** Reopening a folder that is already listed does not move it: the list never shifts under the pointer.
- **Remove in one gesture.** On hover, a button removes a folder from the sidebar, and a notification lets you undo. Reopening the folder later puts it back at the bottom of the list.
- A folder you can no longer access does not take up a place.

## « First steps » on a new folder

On a folder that is just starting, the team sees three things to do: add a client or a participant, post a first message, add a resource (document request, sign-off, decision, appointment…). Each one ticks itself off as soon as it is done. The block disappears when all three are, or when the thread holds more than three posts.

It is only offered to team members who can write in the folder, never on a closed folder or a sample folder. The button to hide it applies to all your folders, and a notification lets you bring it back right away.

## In practice

**Building and renovation.** The site manager returns to a site after two weeks away. The summary line announces four posts and two documents; one click, and he is in front of the first news, without rereading the earlier exchanges.

**Firms.** A client reopens their financing folder after a long silence. They find the marker where they had stopped reading, and see at a glance that the firm has posted since their last visit.

## What it does not do

- The summary does not count choice decisions: a folder that uses many of them is undercounted, never overcounted.
- The summary and the marker are worked out folder by folder, from each person's previous visit: you do not choose the starting date.
- These markers send no notification. To be told by e-mail, see [e-mail notifications](/en/features/email-notifications).
- Recent folders are reserved for accounts that reach the folder through a workspace: a client opening their link does not have this list.
