# Duplicate a folder: next year starts from this year

> Next year’s accounts, the next session: a new folder takes the participants, fields and documents asked for, and nothing goes out before you open it.

## The same folder to redo every year

The same client comes back every year for their accounts, the same course starts again each session, the same contract is renewed. Last year’s folder had everything: the right people, the client’s details, the list of documents to provide. Starting again from an empty folder means typing it all in again, and forgetting a document that took time to name properly.

## A new folder, filled in from the old one

"Duplicate" sits in the folder’s "…" menu, and in the banner of a closed folder, next to "Reopen". The creation assistant opens, already filled in.

- **The subject and the description** are carried over, and you edit them. When the subject holds a year, Kolinea suggests the next one: "Accounts 2026" becomes "Accounts 2027".
- **The participants** are all ticked. You untick those who do not follow.
- **The folder’s fields**: the new folder has the same field groups, empty or with their values, as you choose. A date already past is never carried over.
- **The documents** of the last document request are ready to ask for again, among the new folder’s planned publications.
- **Nothing goes out** before "Open the folder": participants are told only then, as for any new folder.
- **The two folders point to each other**: in the folder’s details, the team reads "Duplicated from" and "Duplicated into", with a link to the other one.

## What it does not do

The thread, the documents, the appointments and the history stay in the original folder: the new one starts with no past. Only the team duplicates, and only while the workspace can still open a folder: the new one counts among active folders, like the others. A sample folder, or a folder still waiting for its professional to take it over, cannot be duplicated.

Duplicating also works through the [API](/en/features/api-and-integrations), and the [AI assistant](/en/features/ai-assistant) can do it when you ask: in both cases, participants are added to the new folder without being told.
